NETCB Limited is a company that operates in many Developing Countries. In certain countries local legislation requires NETCB to adhere to laws that have been designed to stimulate local skills development and wealth creation of the citizens of such a country. NETCB has recently restructured itself in South Africa, Kenya and Gabon. Where Kenya and Gabon prefer citizen ownership irrespective of race or colour, in South Africa Broad-based Black Economic Empowernment is implemented to rectify the ills of Apartheid.
In South Africa NETCB is classified in terms of the current legislation as a small business organisation (Refer to the Small Business Act 102 of 1996 and also reference to the Small Business Amendment Act of 2004). The following Broadbased Black Economic Empowerment (BBEE) initiatives have already been implemented at NETCB in South Africa:
Social Development
NETCB plays an active role with Innovation Communities in South Africa to address the current skills shortage the country is facing. Through involvement as mentors and coaches NETCB strives encourage ever more people without employment to create their own employment.
Skills Development
NETCB created an internship programme for 2011 and beyond. This programme is aimed at developing new takent within the Information Technology industry. In partnership with our own customers we find opportunities where new entrants in the Information Technology Industry can gain experience.
Procurement
NETCB purchases services and products as far as possible from other BBBEE companies. It is a policy of the company to first assess if we can source products and services from a BBBEE organisation before we will try to source it elsewhere.
Employment
Education, training and self-empowerment are key aspects in the way NETCB employs people. NETCB has an excellent track record in bringing more skilled people into the job market from previously disadvantaged communities than most of our peers. Our new Internship Programme will start yet a new generation of skills in South Africa.
We will continue to grow our own workforce that will empower themselves and will become a next generation of managers and shareholders of NETCB. That to us is true economic empowerment.
